More than 2000 participants, between architects, the inquisitive and enthusiasts of the industry, at the meeting with Mario Bellini, architect and designer of international reputation, 9 March in Palermo. An extraordinary event, which started with a keynote speech given by the designer at the Politeama “Giuseppe Garibaldi” theatre and continued at the furnishing store Scillufo, with the inauguration of the exhibition dedicated to the realisations of Bellini for Cassina.
Architect and designer of international reputation, Bellini has forged a remarkable career path over the years, rich in success and supported by important prizes and recognitions, leaving for sure a clear mark in the field. Eight times, in fact, he was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI; has received international recognition including, in 2004, the Medaglia d’Oro for the promotion of design and architecture within the world, granted by The President of the Italian Republic; he has been Director of the celebrated magazine Domus, from 1985 to 1991; in 1987, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, dedicated a personal retrospective and still today exhibits 25 of his works in the permanent collection and from 1979, has been a member of the scientific committee for the design section of the Triennale di Milano. Of his works within the field of architecture in Italy, we remember the neighbourhood of Portello di Fiera, Milan, the Tokyo Design Centre in Japan, the complex Verona Forum, the Museo della Storia della città of Bologna, and the new Milano Convention Center, the largest congress centre in Europe.
The event, in its two different phases, has been organised by Cassina with the collaboration of TRJ and with thanks to the precious support of Scillufo Arredamenti, with the support of the Ordine degli Architetti and the Università di Palermo. To moderate the first meeting on the stage at the Politeama Theatre, there was Professor Vanni Pasca, President of the course of design at the Università di Palermo and design historian.
Following, the exhibition “Cassina, una passione chiamata progetto”, staged by Scillufo and lasting a week, which included images, videos, objects and furnishing accessories designed by the great Italian architect for Cassina and who has become an icon of contemporary design. For the first time, a furnishing store transformed into a small gallery of art open to the public, exhibiting some works generally exhibited at the Triennale di Milano. A great innovation in design, for our city, which welcomed the initiative with interest. A great result also for the President of the Ordine degli Architetti Francesco Miceli, for which “Mario Bellini, a major protagonist in the field of architecture and design, with his presence in our city has contributed to Palermo becoming part of contemporaneity, an objective that the association has been long set on”.
A success beyond every expectation also for us, which makes us always more proud of our path of daily promotion of culture and beauty. Thank you so much.
